I can’t take Meta’s efforts at decentralization seriously while they don’t even have a usable API for posting to Facebook and Instagram. Publishing platform Medium has opened up their me.dm Mastodon server to all current Medium subscribers, the company announced this week. I take a look at what this paid server actually offers.

A recurring comment from people who post stuff on the internet and give Mastodon/fediverse a try is the (high) engagement and reach they get there. Even with much smaller audiences than at Twitter, posts usually get more likes, “boosts” (RTs), and clicks. How can that be? Wall Street Journal tech columnist Christopher Mims has a good hypothesis: To me, the answer is pretty simple: Twitter tries to aggregate as much attention as possible around stuff that goes mega-viral.

I am happy to announce Tokodon 23.02. This release contains around one month’s worth of improvements, and while it is only one month, this release is feature packed! This was an exciting month for me in general, I started working at KDAB, went to FOSDEM in Brusels where I meet a bunch of other KDE folks, and spend time enjoying my new life in Berlin.
