Gabbiano is Italian for gull, obviously chosen because of those massive #gullwingdoors. When you open those #gullwing doors you get easy access to the 4-seater compartment (photo 4). The #renaultgabbiano was designed by #giugiaro of #italdesign. It was based on the #renault11. It has hints of the future #supercinq (which was actually designed by #marcellogandini). The wheels have quite an interesting take on the #renault #losange logo. There are some pictures where this #concept features the alloys of the Fuego or Renault 18 turbo (see photo 7), with those alloys it immediately looks much more Renaultesque!".

However as the 371cm long #205 had more space under the bonnet (photo 8) than the AX #peugeot was able to give it a straighter admission and bigger twin double-barrel #webercarbs (photo 9). With these modifications the #tu24 now developed 103hp at 6800rpm. The #peugeot205rallye got the brilliant triangulated front suspension and the rear suspension of the #205gti 1.6. The #pug205rallye had a vmax of 190 km/h and accelerated from 0-100 in 9,6 secs. The 80-120 was absolved just as fast as the much lighter AX Sport: 5.6 secs. The exterior of this little #pug205 was always #blancmeijeewt with white 13" #steelies. It got a #GTI front spoiler without the driving lights. The squared off wheel arch extensions were unique to the #Rallye. The #peugeottalbotsport striping was applied to all body parts except for the roof. In the interior of this #sacrenumero had the same seats and steering wheel as the #peugeot205 GTI, again with #peugeottalbot #sport logos. The #ritmo was designed by #fiats own design studio! The only one that was done by #bertonedesign was the #ritmocabrio or #bertoneritmo (photo 2). The most interesting part of the Ritmo design were the dark gray plastic bumpers that (partly) wrapped around the front- and rearlights. It was launched in 1978 and was available with 3- and 5-doors. There was a #hothatch version called the #ritmoabarth. See the #ritmoabarth125tc in pics 3, 5 and 6. In the UK and the USA this car was called the #fiatstrada. And as any Fiat it was sold in Spain as the #seatritmo (photo 8). My favourite part of these pre-facelift models are the awesome #steelies (photo 9).
