It just seems like a way for a lot of auto makers to pawn off the last of the remaining stock before the new model comes out. However, there’s something about this particular special edition Corvette that makes us want tattoo an American flag on our arm and crank up White Snake or Bon Jovi to an obnoxious level. No, it’s not the racing history behind it or that’s it’s one of just 190 Grand Sport convertibles built and one of a mere 53 fitted with the optional Red and Black leather interior. It’s not even that it’s only been driven 8,730 miles. It’s much simpler than that, this car had only one transmission available — a 6-speed manual and it comes with a big LT4 V-8. Something we bet all of the previous owners especially appreciated. Both are the first of their kind, originated in motorsports and have had a lasting influence on their respective brands. So, then we guess it really comes down to personal preference. Do believe in truth in engineering or do you just want the ultimate driving machine? Are you all about large wings and flared fenders or all-wheel drive? There really is no wrong answer unless you’re asking the ultimate Audi fanboy @KeithChasesClassics. However, after a quick search on Ebay and Bring a Trailer @SteveChasesClassics and @JordanChasesClassics did give a slight edge to BMW for the simple fact they’re a little easier to come by. At least in the United States. This 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra was owned by Prozac developer Dr. Bryan Molloy for 24 years, eventually retired to an old barn on his property and more or less forgotten. In 1993 a delivery man, visiting the home, discovered the Cobra in the back of the barn, in altogether well-preserved condition. He arranged to purchase it from Dr. Molloy's spouse, and retrieved the car from the barn after fending off the Cobra's longtime co-occupant, a surly 30-lb. raccoon. Just 30 days after the car was removed, that same old barn burned to the ground. So despite all of these pros, solid examples can be acquired for less than $100k. As proof, we present you with this example from @ChequeredFlag. While the mileage is high at 72k, these were both drivers cars and rare, so finding a low mileage example is a challenge. Perhaps easing your mind (or maybe not) is the fact that you’re buying into German engineering and craftsmanship. All in all, we have to agree with Doug that this is the best bimmer to come out of the 90s.
