It seems like every day there is a new segment of the automotive universe created. There are more sub-species of BMW or Mercedes now than there are heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The burden of choice is real, and how can any of these manufacturers expect consumers to make an informed choice when there is an all-new or first-ever every few weeks? No, no, friends, we must find a way to fix this scourge, and I think I’ve figured it out. There should only be six cars.

Forget disc brakes or forced induction or hybrid drivetrains or advances in aerodynamics, the new thing that moved society forward the most stemming from motorsport is undoubtedly this “The Cup” which allows you to chug a beer while keeping your eyesight unobstructed, therefore never missing a second of the on-track action. Somehow this happened a decade ago and we still have not found a way to make this technology trickle down from the race track to our everyday lives.

I’m not sure I’ve had a car to review that I’ve liked less than the 2016 Lexus LX 570. It’s not that it’s a technically bad vehicle, because it’s not: mechanically, it’s a body-on-frame Land Cruiser, and it’s plenty reliable and capable. It’s also incredibly frustrating, overcomplicated, unpleasant to drive, and ugly as a baboon’s perineum. Oh, and it costs about $100,000.
